Have you felt it yet?
The bite of cold in the air is back as the mornings get darker.
It’s time to button up your coat, winter is around the corner.
Now’s the time we really start to find out what path Britain is on, and if we must tighten our belts as well.
So far, the sun has shone on our ‘new’ Government and Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
On a bright May day, he bounded back onto the national stage promising ‘change’ and ‘hope’ not just in Makerfield, but in No10 and the country too.
After toppling Sir Keir Starmer, he bathed in the warmth of Britain’s red-hot summer and the adoration of Labour MPs who saw him as their saviour.
Up till now he’s avoided the political trapdoors that his hapless predecessor specialised in falling through.
He’s even survived his first taste of the Trump treatment too.
But now, as he prepares for next week’s party conference leader’s speech, the message of hope is being watered down.
With an eye on the Budget at the end of October, he knows he’s got tough choices to make.
But you, me and the rest of the GB News community have endured enough of the tough times in recent years.
Now he must prove he will stand up for the people of Britain worried about how they are going to pay for their weekly shop – never mind Christmas looming over the horizon.
For too long our governing classes have had the wrong priorities, overlooking and impoverishing the hardworking majority who simply ask for a chance for their families to flourish.
They see the folly of immigration policy – also known as our wide-open borders – flooding their towns with strangers with their taxes footing the cost of asylum seeker accommodation and NHS treatment for people who have never paid in a penny.
Our public institutions have been encouraged to spend excessive time and money on promoting expensive wokery.
Meanwhile, the time you wait on the phone for a GP appointment or a police officer to attend your home after a burglary grows, that is if it never ends at all…
The pursuit of Net Zero has only increased the cruelty of the cost-of-living crisis that GB News reporters and presenters have witnessed worsening across Britain in the five years we’ve been on air.
Sometimes it feels like GB News – proudly The People’s Channel – is the only place where policies are honestly questioned.
We allow you to speak, to be heard.
Whether Burnham’s listened will be key to his future, and if it means Britain can pull out of the death spiral we are in.
People like him, his party, and most of the political class are isolated from the economic realities facing you and me, the ordinary people of Britain.
They don’t drop the tube of toothpaste in shock in the supermarket on a weekend when they see the price.
As we wait in dread for what’s ahead, it’s worth reminding the left and the Labour Party of what they should stand for.
They should stand for YOU.
They might choke on their mung-bean salad smoothies in shock at this, but GB News today isn’t too far away from the Labour Party of a century ago.
They, like us, were born out of a simple premise as hardship grew towards the end of the 19th Century.
To coin a phrase from It’s a Wonderful Life’s hero George Bailey, the people who ‘do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community’ had been abandoned.
Working-class people toiling in mines, docks, the railways, factories were alone, voiceless.
Like the Britain before GB News began in 2021, the establishment had left them to fend for themselves.
What happened?
A new movement that was rooted in common sense and community was born.
If that sounds familiar, just look at the daily output of GB News.
The early pioneers of the Labour movement realised that if the political elites won’t give you a platform, then you’ve got to build your own.
Unlike GB News, however, the modern left has lost touch with its principles and, instead of standing up for working families, it has sneered at them.
When he stands up next week in Liverpool, we will start to see the true measure of Burnham’s vision.
The kind of path Britain will tread through autumn and winter will come clear.
It’s Burnham’s choices that will decide whether we emerge into warm sunlight once more or stay frozen in the deep freeze of despair.
