Man arrested after ‘mass casualty incident’ at Kansas sports complex left child dead

A driver is in custody after a vehicle drove through a crowd at a Kansas sports centre, leaving two people dead, including a child, and multiple people injured.

Officers from the Wichita Police Department (WPD) were called to the Stryker Sports Complex at 2999 Greenwich Road after reports of a “mass casualty incident”.

A spokesman from the police force said: “WPD is investigating a mass casualty incident involving a vehicle.

“There is no further ongoing threat at this time.”

Aaron Moses of the WPD told local media two “juveniles” were inside the vehicle when it drove through crowds at the complex at around 3.25 pm local time.

Eyewitnesses said many families and children were on the field when the incident happened.

An attendee said he was with his family when a black pickup truck drove onto the field

Officers from the WPD are expected to hold a press conference later this evening to provide more information.
