Russell Brand to have ‘torrid time in jail’ amid guilty rape verdict: ‘He’s facing a long sentence!’

Russell Brand will face a “torrid time in prison” after he was today found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, former BBC journalist and Labour advisor Danny Shaw told GB News.

At Southwark Crown Court, the trial’s judge, Mr Justice Bennathan, told the comedian and actor, 51, he faces a “significant custodial term”, rather than a non-custodial sentence where he would be fined or slapped with a community order, after being convicted of raping a woman, as well as assaulting three others, between 2004 and 2009.

Reacting to the damning verdict, Mr Shaw told the People’s Channel: “He (Brand) will face a torrid time in prison. Sex offenders are almost at the bottom of the ladder in prison hierarchy.”

He also told Britain’s News Channel that Brand is expected to be “facing a long prison sentence”, potentially as long as eight years behind bars.

The jail where Brand will serve his punishment has yet to be determined, although His Majesty’s Prison Service will choose it before sentencing on Monday.

However, Brand could also be held in a Vulnerable Prisoner Unit or given special protections if prison staff believe other inmates could target him.
