Tom Cruise has heaped praise on the Prince and Princess of Wales, calling them “amazing” and “charismatic” during a television appearance.
The 64-year-old Hollywood star was reflecting on Tuesday evening’s world premiere of his latest film, Digger, held at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in central London.
“They are amazing,” Mr Cruise told The Graham Norton Show. “Very charismatic. I had such a good time.”
The royal couple joined the actor on the red carpet for the screening. Sir David Beckham and two of his children, Romeo and Cruz, were also among those accompanying Cruise at the event.
Prior to the royals’ arrival at Leicester Square, Mr Cruise had shared his fondness for the pair, saying: “I just love them. They are lovely people, and I have great respect for them.”
The Princess of Wales dazzled in a sweeping purple gown by Jenny Packham, featuring a plunging neckline and ruched detailing at the waist.
Her most eye-catching choice, however, was the Queen Mother’s Amethyst Sautoir Necklace, a piece seldom seen outside the royal vaults.
The striking pearl, diamond and amethyst necklace was originally presented by Queen Alexandra to Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon on the occasion of her 1923 wedding, before she became the Queen Mother.
Prince William, meanwhile, opted for a tuxedo with a bold double-breasted velvet jacket and bow tie. A grinning Mr Cruise greeted him with the words: “Great jacket.”
In a light-hearted moment as the couple made their entrance, the charity’s chair, Claire Tavernier, inadvertently trod on the train of Kate’s gown while stepping off an escalator.

The princess briefly lost her balance but laughed off the mishap, appearing entirely unfazed as she continued into the venue.
Mr Cruise also took the opportunity to publicly thank the future King and Queen from the stage.
“We want to thank the Royal Highnesses for supporting this event, and just to tell them that we love them and we really appreciate what they do for the arts, for this country and for the world,” he declared.
Tuesday’s event marked the 73rd Royal Film Performance, staged in aid of the Film and TV Charity, which offers mental health and financial support to workers across the industry. William and Catherine met representatives of the organisation before greeting the cast and creative team on the carpet.
It was not the first time the couple had turned out for a Cruise premiere. They attended the British launch of Top Gun: Maverick in May 2022, appearing alongside cast members Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly.
William has since spoken openly about his admiration for that film. At this year’s Bafta Film Awards, he called it “one of the most incredible films I’ve watched in a long time,” adding that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis all “absolutely adore it.”
