Terror arrests increase by over 1,000% in last year as Home Office reveals nearly 4,000 detained

Terror arrests have skyrocketed by more than 1,000 per cent in the past year as the Home Office has revealed almost 4,000 people were detained.

There were 3,867 arrests for terrorism-related activity in the year ending June 2026, latest figures showed.

Some 94 per cent of the arrests were connected to backing Palestine Action after the group was proscribed as a terror organisation on July 5 last year.

Today’s figures are a whopping 1,525 per cent higher than the historical 10-year median of 238 arrests.

Some 46 individuals aged 17 and under were arrested for terrorism-related activity within the same period.

These figures are the second highest volume since records began in 2001, the Government confirmed.

The highest volume on record was 54 in the year ending September 2025.

Between April and June 2026, police made 810 arrests related to terrorism, jumping some 1,185 per cent from the previous quarter between January and March (63).

Of the total arrests for the year, 704 were charged, 89 were released without charge, 16 had alternative action and 11 had a decision pending.

Meanwhile, 3,047 were released on bail to return and released under investigation of the 704 individuals charged.

The remaining 683 were charged under terrorism‑related legislation.

The surge in arrests has come in the same timeframe as the Government proscribing Palestine Action as a terror organisation.
